Parkway Concert Orchestra presents 'American Classics' on November 8 in Norwood
Parkway Concert Orchestra begins its 71st season with a concert of 'American Classics' on Sunday, November 8 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter Street, Norwood. Music Director Geneviève Leclair conducts the 50 piece non-profit orchestra in 'American Salute' by Morton Gould, 'An American in Paris Suite,' 'Adagio for Strings,' 'Pops Hoe Down,' and 'Billy the Kid Suite.' The program will feature Dr. Elżbieta Brandys, flute, in 'Poem for Flute and Orchestra' by Charles Tomlinson Griffes.
The program is supported in part by a grant from the Norwood Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Guest Artist Dr. Elżbieta Brandys
A native of Poland, Dr. Elzbieta Brandys is described as a flutist, musician, and artist “who is able to uniquely meld elegant tone, artistic sensibility and a solid mastery of technique.” Elżbieta performs as a chamber and orchestral musician and gives solo recitals throughout Europe and the United States. She performs with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Indian Hill, Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra, Marsh Chapel Collegium Choir and Orchestra, and the Cantata Singers. She has performed in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Town Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
After graduating from Music Lyceum in Tarnów, Poland, Elzbieta received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Southern Methodist University. She completed her Graduate Performance Diploma and Masters at The Boston Conservatory. In 2013, Dr. Brandys received her Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University, College of Fine Arts.
A devoted and passionate teacher, Elżbieta is on the faculty at the Concord Conservatory of Music, All Newton Music School, Winchester Community Music School, and PAPA Instrumental/Vocal Music School.
